Mead Valley vegetation fire doused

MEAD VALLEY - A brush fire blackened nearly nine acres of vegetation on Friday, July 12 in an unincorporated area near Mead Valley before crews got the upper hand.

The non-injury blaze began for unknown reasons at about 1:15 p.m. in a field near Barton and Rider streets, and the forward progress was stopped about an hour later, according to Cal Fire Riverside.

No structural damage was reported.

Crews planned to remain on scene for several hours to guard against flare-ups.
