Vegetation fire in Aguanga burns 81 acres

Firefighter hand crews from Riverside County Fire Department and the United States Forest Service San Bernardino work to contain a fire that broke out Tuesday, July 16, in Aguanga.

A grass fire broke out Tuesday, July 16, on the east end of Aguanga, blackening over 80 acres in an hour but not immediately threatening any homes or other structures.

By 2:20 p.m., firefighters estimated the fire to have spread to 80 acres, but the rate of spread slowed and by 3:45 p.m. the fire was announced to be 40% contained.

At 5:35 p.m., Cal Fire said the blaze was 60% contained, and firefighters remained on scene throughout the night working on full containment.

The fire was reported 100% contained by 4:47 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 12:45 p.m...
