Vehicles travel on between Highway 60 and the San Jacinto Valley, which has undergone several safety improvements Gilman Springs Road between Moreno Valley and San Jacinto. The two-lane road is a major traffic artery.

SAN JACINTO – Nighttime closures of Gilman Springs Road have ended as construction crews are close to completing a $5 million upgrade to the busy traffic artery, Riverside County transportation officials announced.

The remainder of the construction, which involves work on a small section of the two-lane road, should be completed shortly and would only require a single lane closure as work is done, Patricia Romo, director of the Riverside County Transportation Department, said.

Work started in June and necessitated the closure of Gilman Springs Road at Highway 60 to the west and Highway 79 to the east during most evenings. Motorists were detoured onto Highway 60 to Highway 79 in Beaumont then back to the San Jacinto Valley. As part of another improvement task, work crews installed median traffic delineators for several miles on the winding roadway to discourage passing, which is not allowed. It is the first time the devices have been used to this degree on a county-maintained roadway.

"These improvements will go a long way on making Gilman Springs Road safer, but it is important that motorists remember to drive safely, don't get distracted and don't get behind the wheel when impaired," Romo said. "We are partners in making our roads safer."

Crews are also installing a traffic light at the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Bridge Street, which will be completed without full road closures.
