Welfare check in Murrieta leads police to find two dead, man barricaded

Andrew Burke, 25, was arrested late last night and charged with two counts of murder and resisting arrest.

MURRIETA - The Murrieta Police Department provided the name of a 25-year-old man who is now charged with the murder of two people in a Murrieta neighborhood late Friday, Aug. 2.

After a short barricade situation with police, Andrew Burke was placed under arrest for suspicion of murder and booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center for two counts of murder and resisting a peace officer.

The police also updated that two deceased individuals were found in the residence. No other information was available.

MPD also indicated that the incident appears to be a domestic incident, but the investigation is continuing.

MURRIETA - Murrieta Police Department is investigating the death of one person discovered after responding to a welfare check call on Jonquil Circle, a residential cul-de-sac off Jefferson Avenue in Murrieta at 9:42 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2.

When officers checked the rest of the home, after locating the deceased person, they encountered a male who was uncooperative with the officers on the scene and barricaded himself inside the residence.

Murrieta PD's SWAT team was called in to take over the incident at 11:18 p.m. and the male was taken into custody at 2:39 a.m. Murrieta PD detectives then took over the scene for further investigation.

The police are asking residents to avoid the area of Jefferson Avenue and Magnolia Street as the scene is still an active investigation.

They said the incident was contained to one residence and there is no threat or danger to the community.
