Photographer captures desert bighorn sheep

Vincent Viglione's photographs of a herd of desert bighorn sheep exploded onto social media last week, inspiring viewers with difficult shots of the elusive animals.

Equipped with his camera, Viglione went hunting. His prey was a small band of peninsular desert bighorn sheep. He said he knew where to find them.

"I stopped at my 'secret bighorn spotting area' and got some shots. The ram had a now-healed broken ankle, and there's the ewe that had one horn broken off," he said. "The telephoto on my camera is equal to a 1,200 mm lens, so some of my shots are from as much as half a mile away....
