Flag bus history runs deep

RIVERSIDE – It's no mistake that Riverside Transit Authority's buses are red, white and blue. After all, those colors couldn't be more patriotic given that the agency was practically born on the nation's bicentennial.

Back in 2001, shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, when patriotism was at a fever pitch and American flags were planted in lawns, hung from roofs and unfurled from the tops of buildings, Riverside Transit Authority decided to fly its own flag on the side of several buses.

The move was an immediate hit on the streets. The patriotic bus wrap was a small – but huge...
