Jason Wayne Rhodes of Riverside was arrested Monday night.

CORONA (CNS) - A 45-year-old man suspected of severely beating and forcibly taking his girlfriend's car near Corona was being held on Tuesday, Aug. 13 in lieu of $1 million bail.

Jason Wayne Rhodes of Riverside was arrested Monday night and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of torture, carjacking and domestic violence.

A co-worker of the victim made the domestic violence report to authorities, according to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Steve Fredericks.

Investigators who followed up on that report alleged that Rhodes had spent an unspecified period of time at the woman's residence in the 10000 block of Dawson Canyon Road, in the Temescal Valley, inflicting serious physical harm before taking her vehicle and driving it into Riverside.

Deputies said they tracked the suspect down on Rancho Del Oro Drive, near the Riverside (91) Freeway, where he was taken into custody without a struggle.

The victim's car was located and returned to her, according to Fredericks.
