HEMET - Authorities on Friday, Aug. 9 were looking for a driver who struck and killed an 85-year-old pedestrian in a hit-and-run west of Hemet, the California Highway Patrol said.

It happened at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday on State Route 74 near Agnew Avenue, in the unincorporated community of Homeland, according to Officer Mike Lassig.

The CHP said the Romoland man was walking southbound across SR-74 in the number one lane when he was struck by a white truck heading west at an unknown speed.

The driver of the truck failed to stop and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Lassig said.

The CHP did not provide a description of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call the CHP's Temecula office at (951) 506-2000.
