Highway 74 repair work moving along rapidly with some resurfacing underway

Ames Construction crews work hard to resurface a portion of the Feb. 14 storm-damaged Highway 74 leading from Hemet to Mountain Center and Idyllwild Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Repair work to reopen Highway 74 to daytime travel with an escort is well underway as primary contractor Ames Construction crews begin resurfacing much of the reconstructed roadway.

The major highway has been closed except for Caltrans escorted travel between Hemet and Mountain Center leading to Idyllwild since the record-breaking Feb. 14 rainstorm that washed out large portions of Highway 74 and Highway 243, the only roads leading in and out of the resort city. Highway 243 between Banning and Idyllwild still remains closed. Travel from Idyllwild to Lake Fulmor on Route 243 remains open to...
