AGUANGA - A brush fire that broke out on Monday, Aug. 26 along state Route 371 in Aguanga scorched roughly 6 acres before being partially contained.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 5:25 p.m. near Cary Road and the westbound side of the highway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate pace toward the highway.

Two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were summoned to make runs on the fire, which prompted the California Highway Patrol to shut down both sides of Route 371 in the area, according to the agency.

The fire was about 50% contained by 6 p.m. with expectations for full containment shortly after nightfall.

There was no word regarding how the blaze started.
