Firefighters respond to brush fire in Aguanga

UPDATE: Aug. 27, 2:30 p.m.

According to the Riverside County Department of Transportation, Sage Road from Highway 79 to Cottonwood School Road was closed at 12:35 p.m. due to the wildfire.

At 11:45 a.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire had reported that the forward rate of spread had been stopped at 10 acres. They expected firefighters to remain on the scene for approximately 3-4 hours.

More than 100 firefighters responded to reports of a brush fire near the intersection of Sage Road and Highway 79 in Aguanga Tuesday, Aug. 27.

The blaze, first reported at 10:26 a.m., was reported to be at 5 acres when crews first arrived at the scene, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department incident report.

"Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of fire near the intersection of Sage Road and Highway 79, in Aguanga," Cal Fire spokesman Rob Roseen said. "The first arriving engine reported 5 acres."

At the last posted update, the forward rate of spread of the blaze, which was burning in "light, flashy fuels," had been stopped.

One helicopter and 16 engine companies responded to the blaze.

No evacuation orders have been issued at this time and firefighters expect to remain on scene until later in the afternoon.
