RIVERSIDE - An officer was injured when a Riverside city police patrol vehicle and a Caltrans trash truck were involved in a head-on crash on westbound State Route 91, which had been closed to traffic due to an earlier incident.

The crash was reported at about 4:30 p.m. near Van Buren Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The injured officer was hospitalized in unknown condition, according to Officer Ryan Railsback.

It was unclear if anyone else was injured, or how the crash happened.

The freeway was closed in both directions at the time of the crash because a woman had threatened to jump off the Adams Street overpass before she was persuaded to come down.

Why the trash truck was on the freeway at that time was not revealed.
