During Zero Week football action, Temecula Valley High School's Logan Moreno (5) cuts back avoiding going out of bounds with Valley View High School linebacker Elijah Mercado (52) in pursuit.

The first official week of high school football in California has come and gone, and it all started with Zero Week in the southwest Riverside County region, which began Friday, Aug. 23. A Zero Week game can be stressful to the coaching staff for any number of reasons, whether it's scheduling issues, paperwork, transfers, physicals, etc., anything can make for a huge scramble to get ready for the season. Of course, the added benefit of playing a Zero Week game results in a bye week somewhere during the preseason, leading up to a breath of fresh air in the grand scheme of things.

Over 20 local teams took to the field this past weekend to kick off their 2019 seasons, and though there was the thrill of victory for some, the agony of defeat also had some programs scratching their heads when the dust settled. Here is the tale of the tape from Zero Week action
