RIVERSIDE - A man accused in an attack at a Perris home that left one woman dead and two other people seriously injured is expected to appear before a judge tomorrow at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Rick Espinoza said deputies responded around 11:20 p.m. Friday to a report of "multiple people being assaulted'' at a residence at 33 Whirlaway Street.

Deputies found a woman dead at the home, and a man and another woman with "traumatic'' injuries that resulted in their hospitalization, Espinoza said.

Investigators identified Anthony Varela, 29, as a suspect in the killing, according to the sheriff's department.

Varela was involved in a traffic collision before being taken into custody on Saturday, authorities said. He was arrested at Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he was being held without bail on suspicion of first-degree murder, jail records show.

Investigators did not release information on what triggered the attack, nor did they identify the victims.
